Resounding success of the 5th edition of Walk 1 km in My Shoes: a record $79 775 was raised!
Bathurst, October 31, 2024 – Last Saturday, on October 26, walkers from all over the area gathered to answer the call of the four foundations in the Acadie-Bathurst region for the 5th edition of Walk 1 km in My Shoes. The event honoured those who are battling or have battled cancer, while raising funds to support the initiatives of the Roses Radiothon.
With an initial goal of raising $45,000, the event exceeded all expectations, raising a record $79 775. The amounts collected by region are $21,486 for the Chaleur region, $24,020 for Caraquet; $9,459 for Lamèque and $24,810 for Tracadie. Since the first edition, more than $330,000 have been raised to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for our health care facilities, thereby contributing to quality care for patients in our community.
“Seeing so many people mobilized for this cause moves me deeply. Every donation makes a difference in the lives of those battling cancer, and this generosity is a testament to the solidarity of our community,” said Ronald Losier, honorary president of the event. “Thank you to everyone for their commitment and unwavering support.”
Pascal Frenette, who was walking for his mother, took part for the first time. Here is what he had to say: “It was a deeply moving experience for me. Walking with my mother in mind is a way for me to offer her my support at this difficult time, and to show her that she’s not alone in her fight. This public support is priceless.”
The foundations of the Acadie-Bathurst region extend their warmest thanks to all the participants, donors and volunteers who made this success possible. Together, we showed the strength of our community in the fight against cancer.
