Bathurst, October 30, 2023 – Nearly thirty participants and supporters took part in the Walk 1 Km in my shoes event on October 28. These steps translated into donations that count for the four foundations in the northeast of the province, raising over $66,190 for the acquisition of cutting-edge equipment and services, particularly in the fight against cancer.

Orchestrated by the region’s foundations, the 4th edition of Walk 1 Km in my shoes was a success, surpassing the initial goal of $50,000. The event is part of the overall Roses Radiothon goal of $190,000.

Launched in 2020, the Walk 1 Km in my shoes fundraising event encourages people to collect donations by wearing the shoes of someone who has battled or is battling this disease. We would also like to highlight the support of the event’s two major official sponsors, St-Isidore Asphalte and Friends of Healthcare, since the first edition.

« This is my 4th participation and I’m always moved to see the involvement of people and the generosity of donations. It’s a very heartfelt gesture on the part of our walkers and supporters. When you walk in the shoes of a cancer patient, you can’t begin to imagine the suffering and insecurity you feel in the face of this ordeal. The walk highlights the solidarity of our region and its communities in supporting our foundations to meet local needs. At the end of the day, it allows us to support these people in their illness by being close to their family and home for healthcare. Every step really counted more than ever this year. It’s important for me to be involved in the cause as a sponsor, but also as a walker. There’s a great energy that comes out of it, and that translates concretely into the foundations with care that brings hope to those who are struggling. » comments Ronald Losier, CEO of St-Isidore Asphalte and honorary president of the event since its creation.

By reaching out to their networks to raise funds throughout the month of October, participants are taking advantage of Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise funds for their one-kilometre walk.

The amounts raised by region are Chaleur $19,048, Caraquet $23,083, Lamèque $10,098 and Tracadie $13,958.

« Thank you to the participants and supporters who didn’t hesitate to wear sometimes uncomfortable shoes to make this event what it is today. And that’s without counting the generosity of our donors, whose financial commitment makes it possible to meet needs that make a difference in our local hospitals, through foundations that provide quality health care close to home. Every step taken this year contributes to the fight against the scourge of cancer. They are steps that allow us to grow as individuals, and demonstrate that our communities stand together. It’s enriching both personally and collectively. Finally, I appeal to people to join us in our future efforts. » to conclude, Mr. Losier.
